Yes!! I get to use heroic 1970′s Bruce Jenner badge again! I’m also just now realizing how awkward his shorts are. Great. I’ll never be able to unsee that now.
Welcome back to Milestone Monday where I talk about all the cool new things that my kid is learning how to do. The last time I did this – which was also the FIRST time I did this – Betty learned to pull up to stand. She has now been pulling up to stand like a boss on absolutely everything for months regardless of how safe or stable it might be. Child-proofing has been a real joy for sure.
Unfortunately this time I do not have visual proof of her newest trick so you will just have to believe me when I tell you what it is. On Saturday, my brilliant, adorable daughter learned how to stand up on her own! I’ll paint a little picture of how it went down since I don’t have any photo evidence:
The setting: Betty’s playroom. We were in there hanging out with one of the more…interesting…toys that she has been given: a pig in a chef’s hat holding a rolling pin that dances and very loudly sings Marvin Gaye’s How Sweet It Is in a cartoon voice without any way to control the volume whatsoever. She loves it, so I won’t judge. Anyway we were laughing and dancing along with the pig and having a swell time when all of a sudden she just stood up in the middle of the room as I was sitting there with my mouth just hanging open like a fool.
Luckily I had enough sense to not freak out and push her down and scare the crap out of her so that she would be afraid to ever stand again. Instead I started applauding and told her how amazing she was. She smiled proudly, sat back down and that was that.
Okay so when I write it down it might sound a little anti-climactic, but I’m her mom so to me this was pretty much on par with landing on Mars.
She did this two more times that day and of course each time my phone was way out of arm’s reach. I attempted to take some video on a couple different occasions, but obviously she had no interest in doing it when she knew the Internet was watching her. The AW gene skips a generation I guess.
Anyway, that’s about as productive as our weekend got. We all have colds again. Thanks, daycare.
Happy SUPER BOWL WEEK, everyone!!!

Totally amazing – I would agree. Mine still amazes me at 7. She has started climbing up onto the counter to get her own cup for water, bowl for snack, etc. instead of asking me. I am actually kind of proud she figured out the microwave.

I just love the Momma you are! The crying when you look at your baby, being amazed by everything they do and getting excited at milestones Momma. Which is how I am and think everyone should be haha.
Hooray Betty, standing like a boss!!! Next up, walking!

Aw, man! I hope you’re feeling better today for the Super Bowl! That sucks. I got all of the sicknesses going around this year, too. Not fun.
