Occasionally I like to attempt a DIY project.
Sometimes it doesn’t work out so well, like the time I tried to teach myself how to knit. I managed to learn one stitch and then worked on the same scarf for probably 4 years and never came close to finishing it. But then other times I have a lot of success, like when I made an origami cherry blossom plant and letters to spell out Betty’s name in her room and learned how to make a tutu. I fully intend to put my tutu-crafting skills to good use and make a rainbow colored one for Betty’s Unicorns & Rainbows themed birthday bash. Currently I’m drowning in rolls of tulle until I can get that project underway. But first she needed something to wear underneath since naked in a tutu isn’t so party-appropriate. Unless it’s a frat party.
So I took to my “Target of the Internets”* otherwise known as Etsy to see what I could find in the way of a first birthday top. I did not set out with the intention of making one myself, but as soon as I stumbled upon a necklace-style onesie, I thought maybe it was something I could handle. I had done a somewhat similar project before except that time I used paint. This time I was going to use fabric and it would probably take me a billion times longer because I don’t own a sewing machine.
Sounds like this would be pretty easy for me to completely ruin, right? Well luckily I’m very anal retentive about straight lines. It almost looks like I used a sewing machine. Yes, I’m gloating.
Here’s my finished product!

Okay so the “1″ is a little off-kilter, which was my bad entirely. But since this is a necklace onesie, I figured I could just pass it off like the pendant is swinging ever so gently in the breeze because I am NOT making another one of these right now.
I’m so excited to see how it will look with her (hopefully adorable) rainbow tutu!
Do you like crafty things? What was the last thing you made?

*I call it this because every time I go on that damn site to look for one specific thing, I end up on there for 3 hours buying hand soap shaped like a hedgehog and about a hundred other things I don’t really need.

Awww, she’s going to look adorable! Well done, Mum!

That is so cute, can’t wait to see it with the tutu:)
DIY is quite fun, while I was on maternity leave my neighbour taught me to crochet, and right now I’m working on a Tractor for my little boy:)

That is cute!! And really kids move around and wiggle so much that I don’t think anyone will notice it is crooked. I do love crafting things and am about 70/30 in my doing it right.

I have always loved to craft, but the full-time working single mom thing has gotten in the way of late!
Came out awesome! I love the bow.
You could put that baby in a burlap sack and she would rock it! But, in the interest of your feelings, it’s very cute!
