It’s the 2012 Catalina Wine Mixer!

Um. I mean REVIEW EXTRAVAGANZA!

Every Friday this month I will be linking up with two of my long-time favorites, the hostesses with the mostest-eses, Mrs. Match and Mimi, for this fun recap event. There are several other lovely ladies hosting too that I am less familiar with, but hope to get to know better – if Mrs. Match and Mimi are teamed up with them, there’s no way they can be lame.

Review Extravaganza

Today’s recap encompasses the months of January thru March, so let’s get this extravaganza started.

January 2012

I was just getting to that stage of being enormously pregnant and coming out of probably the most ho-hum holiday season since I turned 21 and was able to drink legally. Christmas parties are a lot more fun when there is wine involved. While I said at the beginning of my pregnancy that I might enjoy a glass while in my third tri (which just so happened to coincide with the beginning of holiday party season), I just couldn’t do it. I like wine way too much to just have one glass of it. So I was a total Sober Sally for all of December and rang in the New Year with an O’Douls, which surprisingly enough didn’t taste as bad as everyone said or maybe my judgement was clouded by sheer desperation.

Yeah. Very pregnant and very sober. There were some notable events in January though. Betty’s baby showers!

Really, bakery? You couldn’t make the blocks spell anything else? Those aren’t even her initials.

Still in the womb and already spoiled.

There’s a Betty in there!

There were 3 showers. Some people might consider this to be overkill, but I just went with it. I only have pictures from the one that was generously thrown by my stepmom and my sisters-in-law. Friends, food, and a playoff football game on the TV is pretty much my perfect party. Then another one was thrown at my office with a big catered lunch. And then the third was a surprise that a friend of mine threw at her house. Basically Betty and I spent January getting totally spoiled by everyone we know. The generosity is still staggering nearly a year later. I spent the rest of the month writing about 300 thank you notes and getting carpal tunnel.

February 2012

I spent pretty much all of February being pissed off.

Betty would be born exactly 3 weeks after this photo was taken. That belly wasn’t even done growing yet. I can’t remember at all what it felt like to be pregnant with her, but I do know that I was more uncomfortable than I’ve ever been in all my life. Everyone said, “Oh you better get sleep now because once the baby comes blah blah blah!” like I was some kind of crazy-ass sleep camel that could store up extra sleep in my hump (bump?) to use later on. Luckily they were all wrong because I ended up getting more sleep with a newborn than I did in the last month of my pregnancy. She obviously cried several times a night at first, but at least I wasn’t getting up 30 times just to pee.

March 2012

I HAD A BABY! I also had a birthday, but we can just pretend that didn’t happen.

Betty was born right at the beginning of March and pretty much directly after that I developed amnesia and do not remember the rest of the month at all. Thank goodness I have about 10,000 photos of her so that I can remember that she really was that small once.

Seriously though, the memory loss due to sleep deprivation and other things is really no joke. I figure that not being able to remember things that were specifically horrible is the reason there aren’t more only children on the planet.

So that pretty much sums up the first three months of my year: Miserable (but so spoiled), miserable-r, and epic life changing event! Followed by TV static. I don’t think I got back to my regularly scheduled programming until sometime in the middle of the summer. I have no idea how I’m supposed to recap April – June next week.

Yay, thanks for linking up! I’m excited to catch up with you since you were MIA being super mom and all that. ;-) I still can’t get over that the bakery spelled bad with the blocks. Really people?
I hate when people say sleep now. You’re right-you can’t store it up, and I already have trouble sleeping through the night, and I’m not even in the giant stages yet. Your story is encouraging! I had to suffer through my first Thanksgiving without wine in years-it was kind of rough. I think Christmas will be worse-my MIL is a stressball, and I’m craving eggnog like no other. It’s just not the same without the rum! I may have to try some O’Douls.

  2. ONLY CHILDREN FOR THE WIN! I would love to link up for this but I will be 100% honest, I really am having a hard time remembering most of the beginning of the year w/out giving myself a complex.

I know I could remember if I tried. But I’m too lazy ;)

I totally forgot about the BAD letters on the cake, it still makes me laugh but really, what were they thinking?

You had the cutest most adorable little miss ever!! So happy she’s here and that you’re feeling back to yourself, your new hot momma self! oxox

  3. Button says:

Man you really went all out to kick off the year!

  4. Nicole says:

Seriously cute post. I giggled, at your expense, sorry :) I just hope the memory came back?!?!

  5. Emmy says:

Hi and welcome! Yes MIMi and Mrs. Match are both awesome. And yes- I swear babies really do suck away part of your brain and the more you have the worse it seems to get- but yet they are still worth it :)

So awesome that you had three showers. And seriously what is up with the bakery. I wonder if they thought they were really funny doing that. Lame!

Thanks so much for recapping with us and look forward to reading more of your blog.

  6. 3 showers! Why not? Sounds like you had a great but busy year!
